Common Mistakes in Web Design

1. Creating crowded web pages

A website should offer a balance between the space occupied by the information (text, images, menus) and white space or negative space (background, distances between paragraphs and other elements of the page empty seats). A Web page should look airy, easy route with a view, simple. The visitor must be able to read between the lines and easy to find information of interest. Solution to avoid this mistake is to use “padding” and “margin” style when you create the page, to back columns, paragraphs, images, text, etc..
It appears that the trend in Romanian web design is exactly reversed: the pages are crowded, the image is squeezed in to make room for advertising. They are hard to navigate, long and tiring.

2. Information is hard to find in web page

This is a common mistake found on many pages. The visitor enters a site with a purpose: to inform. If the first few seconds after entering the site will find the information he promised (by title, URL, describing the page that makes reference to that site) will leave the site. Simple.
Important elements of a web page to be highlighted. Portions of the text provides the essence of information should also be highlighted.

3. The links are hard to find in web page

Links are the most important elements of a page from the viewpoint of a visitor. If they can not easily be found, the visitor can change the browsing the site. There are two principles to keep in mind when performing a web page:

* Links to be distinguished from the rest of the text by a different color or underlining;
* The text should be avoided not look like a link to link (the same color or underscore), otherwise the visitor will feel cheated.

4. Using an incorrect image format

Standard formats for images used on websites are JPEG, PNG or GIF. Using other formats can lead to heavy loads the web page. There are also examples of sites that use these formats although correct, loading times are very large images. Web DesignProblemele are diverse, but most common are unprepared web images (resized and saved for web) or use improper-size images as background for page elements (the problem that the designer showed a lack of experience in the techniques of slicing / slicing).

5. The title page is left at default

In Dreamweaver’s default page title is “Untitled Document.” Omitting the title change is an unforgivable mistake for even the most inexperienced web designer. Do you think that there are designers who make this mistake? Give a Google search on the keyword “Untitled Document” and you will be surprised to find nearly 30 million hits.

6. Menu  difficult  to use or found

There is a trend in web design to hide the menu graphics or page elements within an image. Although this trend is interesting from an artistic perspective, from functional point of view is not appropriate.
The menu should be easily accessible to visitors, the only option that allowed a large number of pages as menus, type “drop-down.”

7. The text is fixed size

The visitor should be able to resize text as desired. Defining the text size in pixels that will keep its fixed size. The solution would be to make the defining attribute using EM.

8. The goal is not clear

In the first few seconds after loading the web page visitor must realize what is about the page you came. This can be achieved by using suggestive titles and sub paragraphs. There are plenty of Web sites to be visited only to lose time to find what they are.

9. Compelling use of color

Stringent colors or color combinations may be unsuitable for human eye fatigue, or detracts from valuable information on the web. Two important things must be taken into account when choosing the set of colors for the site: the combination should be pleasing to the eye and do not use more than three primary colors (the rest is just shades thereof).

10. Integrating ads into the content page

Ads and online advertising should be kept separate from the information content of the page. The visitor must realize that are slightly or areas of online advertising banners, and images or links that are part of this page. Mixing with content ads will confuse the visitor and make him leave the site.

These would be the main mistakes made by web designers. There are some special cases, exceptions, and they can not be considered mistakes. For example, sites can upload photo files in TIFF or BMP format for various reasons: examples, tests, etc.. Of course we can not consider that the designer made a mistake to be corrected.
